Modeling watershed erosion with CASC2D
نویسندگان
چکیده
CASC2D is a physically-based, distributed model that simulates the response of a watershed to precipitation. Basic processes in the model include: precipitation, interception, infiltration, surface runoff and channel flow, and erosion and deposition of upland soil and channel bed sediment. Model performance is demonstrated by applications to numerous sites such as Goodwin Creek, MS. This watershed is 21 km2 and has been extensively monitored. The model was calibrated and validated using rainfall data from 16 meteorological, six flow, and six sediment gaging stations. The spatial and temporal variation of sediment erosion and deposition was successfully simulated. CASC2D is readily coupled with standard GIS tools to facilitate data exploration, model set-up, and analysis and visualization of model results. More recently, CASC2D has been expanded to simulate chemical transport aswell as extreme floods in largewatersheds. CASC2D applications to theCalifornia Gulch, CO and Arkansas River, CO watersheds demonstrate these enhancements.

Watershed Simulation with an Enhanced Distributed Model
Distributed watershed hydrological and erosion modeling is gaining popularity in recent years due to increased computing power and availability of detailed spatial hydrological data. Models of this type are widely believed to provide greatest opportunities to examine hydrologic impact of land use change and climate change (Sharika et al. 2000); they also have immense utility to forecast the mov...
متن کاملTREX: spatially distributed model to assess watershed contaminant transport and fate.
Contaminant releases from upland areas can have adverse water quality and stream ecology impacts. TREX (Two-dimensional, Runoff, Erosion, and Export) is a spatially distributed, physically-based model to simulate chemical transport and fate at the watershed scale. TREX combines surface hydrology and sediment transport features from the CASC2D watershed model with chemical transport features fro...
متن کاملPrediction of Land Use Management Scenarios Impact on Water Erosion Risk in Kashidar Watershed, Azadshahr, Golestan Province
Soil erosion is a serious problem especially in northern parts of Iran. One themost important side effects on soil erosion may be the decline in qualities of soil refers toagricultural productivity. So it is very important to assess the soil erosion risk for thesustainable development of agriculture. This study outlines ways undertaken to provide anew tool to manage water erosion from physical ...
متن کاملEffect of soil erosion on available phosphorus losses in a Hyrcanian watershed
One of the most important main environmental problems is soil erosion and its affects. Eutrophication, low oxygen levels and `high nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) concentrations in reservoirs, channel and other water courses, is a common water pollution feature. Phosphorus (P) is one of the major plant nutrients and also the major nutrients controlling eutrophication of surface water. The ai...
متن کاملImpact of Land Use Change on Erosion Risk: an Integrated Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System and Modeling Methodology
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of rapidly changing land use on erosion and sedimentation in a mixed land use watershed in the Ozark Highlands of the USA. The research combines a geographic information system-based soil erosion modeling approach with land use change detection to quantify the influence of changing land use on erosion risk. Five land use/land cover maps wer...
